Check-ups

If you feel no pain and have a pretty healthy-looking smile, it can be tempting to skip a few dental appointments – but here at Roseneath Dental, we want to change that perception. A regular check-up with your family dentist is the key to keeping that healthy smile for decades to come. We will not only be able to spot any underlying problems that you might not be aware of, but will also advise and gently remind you about the little things, such as regular brushing and flossing, that make a big difference to your overall health and mitigate against costly future procedures.

During your check-up, your dentist will carry out a thorough assessment of your mouth, teeth and gums, taking x-rays if necessary and asking you lots of questions about your oral hygiene, general health and lifestyle. If any problems are identified, a treatment plan will be created and follow-up appointments arranged. Fees and details of treatment will always be clearly explained.

White Fillings

Teeth which are decayed or broken can be restored with a simple filling. Amalgam (mercury) fillings have traditionally been used, but we prefer to use tooth-coloured composite resin fillings or porcelain inlays to provide you with a more natural ‘look’. Sometimes called white fillings, these are designed to match your own tooth colour, so they are invisible once in place.

Dental Extractions

Teeth that are very broken, infected or decayed may need to be pulled, or extracted. Extractions are normally done with a simple local anaesthetic; for more complex procedures, we can offer dental sedation or refer patients to a specialist as required.

We have a range of restoration options to replace the gap that is left after an extraction, and will advise you on which we feel would offer you the best long-term outcome.

Root Canals

Root canal treatment, also known as endodontics, is needed when the nerve supply of the tooth becomes infected through decay or injury. This can result in an abscess if left untreated. The purpose of root canal treatment is to remove all infection from the root canal and clean and fill it to prevent further infection. This procedure is usually carried out under a dental/rubber dam to prevent re-infection during the procedure. It takes a little longer than a standard filling and is usually done over multiple visits, but is not painful as we offer appropriate anaesthesia. Once treated, your tooth may require a crown to reinforce it, as root-canaled teeth can become brittle.
